Echinacea purpurea (Purple Coneflower)

$7.50

24-48” height, average is about 30-36” depending on growing conditions. Plant is a rosette of rough textured green leaves, from which the mauve-pink daisy-like flowers emerge in June-August. Drought tolerant once established; full sun; North American native.

This selection was purchased as ‘Doppelganger’. Allegedly, it grows a second whorl of ray flowers (“petals”) about midway up the central cone from the primary whorl. In nearly 10 years of growing it, both in-ground and in containers, I have never seen it happen. I offer it as a species specimen, rather than as a named cultivar, since I do not believe it actually is ‘Doppelganger’. All the same, though, it is a nice long season bloomer that attracts pollinators and hummingbirds.
