About Daylilies--Daylilies (Hemerocallis) comprise one of the easiest to care for families of perennials, and my
second favorite family of garden plants.  They bloom in nearly every color of the rainbow except true blue.  They can
tolerate a very wide range of adverse conditions and still somehow manage to look great.  I certainly don't recommend
abusing them by any means, but they can take full sun to mostly shade, heat, drought, occasional excesses of
water...you name it.
To keep them looking their best, though, one should remove yellow or dead leaves, and remove (deadhead) expired
flowers to keep things looking fresh.  Plant them where they'll receive at least 6 hours of direct sun per day.  They can
take less, but they'll likely bloom less, and grow weaker stems that will be more prone to falling over.  An early season
application of a slow release balanced fertilizer (an 8-8-8 or 10-10-10) will keep them strong and healthy.  Disease and
insect issues generally don't amount to much, especially when plants aren't stressed.  Below are the varieties that I
have had long enough to be able to photograph in bloom.  Most of them are in active production and more varieties
are being added as time moves forward.  Click on the thumbnail picture of each variety to see the full-size photo.

Please note that bloom times are approximate.  They will vary by region, and from year to year.   The Northwest
growing season was 3-6 weeks later than usual in 2011.
